The Broken Radar: The Tale of a World Cup Defender Turned Security Guard »

By: Othman Al Tuwaijri @O2aijri I received a random text one afternoon from a friend, with it a picture attached of  a man standing at the reception of a commercial establishment in Jeddah. “Do  you know who this is?” The answer was obvious. The man was wearing a dark  suit, looking blankly at the elevator, drifting into the abyss, yet not going  anywhere from his post, for that was his position. His main job was to secure the  area and assist guests, as that was the job of facility security. Securing areas  was unfortunately his role before this ill fate, yet in a different manner. The area  that he secured before was the 18-yard-box of Al-Ahli, Al-Hilal, as well as the  Saudi national team for more than a decade. The man in the dark suit with a  laminated card hanging from his breast pocket was none other than Abdullah Sulaiman Zubromawi, better known as Abdullah Sulaiman or “The Radar” among other  nicknames he earned throughout his career.
