Ivan Hasek, Fujairah || March 5th, 2016

Ivan Hasek has been sacked as Fujairah manager after a recent period of results leading to their position in the Arabian Gulf League relegation zone. Fujairah, the surprise package of last season, started off their season with a miserable 8-1 drubbing at Al-Ahli where Hasek was lucky not to lose his job.

After fellow relegation battlers Sharjah, Al-Dhafra and local rivals Dibba all upped their game in the second half of the season to steer themselves away from the relegation zone, Fujairah now sit a couple of points away from safety with just 6 weeks to go. Hasek’s assistant coach, Stefan, will manage the team in their next game against in-form Al-Wahda who are led by Javier Aguirre.

Walter Zenga, Al-Shaab || February 20th, 2016

Even the mighty Walter Zenga couldn’t do anything to help doomed Al-Shaab. The club sit dead last in the UAE’s Arabian Gulf League with one win in the space of 19 weeks, a torrid record which largely goes down to the work, or lack of, from the board of directors. It came to a point where the ruler of Sharjah appointed an interim board of directors in late 2015 to solve the issue.

Zenga’s replacement comes in the form of former Al-Jazira manager and Ahli Khalil manager Stefano Cusin. The man won the hearts of many in the city of Khalil, bringing the club to a respectable Yasser Arafat Cup win and turning out victor in the historical Palestine Cup match against Gaza-based Ittihad Shujaiya. Cusin didn’t last until Khalil’s AFC Cup campaign, which starts this week, but he will now relish the impossible challenge to keep Al-Shaab up. After all, Al-Shaab fans are “with you until the end”.
